The Tree House, Tongabezi, Zambia

The broad Zambezi River looks quiet from the deck at the top of this three-tier treehouse, but a few bends away that all changes. At the finish of the swimming pool a hidden path winds along the cliff face to our secluded Tree House. Set against the basalt rock bed, amongst the branches of a riverine Ebony tree, this house spreads out over a sustainable pine deck that guarantees brilliant views of the Zambezi River. You cannot listen to the roar of Victoria Falls from The Tree House but they are close. There's multiple ways to experience the falls, from soaring through the spray in a microlight to rafting the rapids or bungee leaping from the Victoria Falls Bridge.

The spectacle has drawn visitors to the area since 1855, beginning with the explorer David Livingstone. When it hits the lip of Batoka Gorge, the river hurls itself over at three,3000 cubic meters a second. This riverside eyrie high up in an ebony tree, with king-size bed and claw-footed bath, provides a place to hide out after all that activity.

The king size bed has a immense, canopied mosquito net with air conditioning and the extensive space may even be used for private dining and lounging. The bathrooms crowning glory is a amazingly positioned claw footed bath and from the Anatolian carpets to the Asian chests and West African artwork the Tree House invokes exotic day dreams. All the inclusive Tongabezi activities are available... but this house is a lot part of the environment that you can experience the beauty and majesty of Zambia without setting a foot outside.

* Fully inclusive rates for the Tree House beginning from $715 pppn
